Outlook Express

Viewing Email In Outlook Express

Never, never, never click to open an email to view it until AFTER you first check out the email source code!!!!! You will need to adjust a few settings in Outlook Express. This is very important.

Usually, the default setting of Outlook Express is for the preview pane to be open so that when you download your mail, the first email is automatically opened for you to read. This needs to be changed immediately.

Adjust Outlook Express Settings

Open Outlook Express > click View (located at the top menu bar) > click layout > uncheck Show Preview Pane > click OK

Now, when your inbox is open, you should only be able to see who an email is From, the Subject and the Date Received. (If the preview pane is still open and it automatically shows the contents of the first email, close Outlook Express and reopen it.)

How To Examine The Contents of Each Email BEFORE Opening It

Right click on the email you want to examine > Click Properties > Click Details > Click Message Source

Scroll down through the Message Source until you see the contents of the email.

If you recognize it as being from someone you know or a trusted source, close out the Message Source and close out the Properties box and proceed with double clicking on the email to open it and read it in a normal manner.
